Daniel Rothenberg: The Alchemist’s Press

October 26 - December 7, 2025
Opening reception Sunday October 26 from 4-6pm

Alchemy of the Press marks the widespread debut of the Kallitype Etching, a process I developed that merges the 19th-century photographic tradition of the kallitype with the physicality of printmaking techniques such as etching, linocut, and woodcut. The result is a body of one-of-a-kind prints where the color and geometric qualities of printmaking intersect with the organic textures and tones of the kallitype.

The kallitype process, first invented in the late 1800s, is a historical photographic printing method that uses iron salts and silver nitrate to produce rich brown tones. By reimagining it through the press, I explore how photography and printmaking—two mediums rooted in replication—can be transformed into singular, non-repeatable works.

Rothenberg is a Rochester, NY based artist and a 2021 graduate of Nazareth University, where I studied ceramics and printmaking. His work has been shown nationally, and he remains dedicated to experimentation—pushing the boundaries of what printmaking and photography can become when they intersect.

December 5-7 is The Factory Art Market with music and dance performances in the gallery Friday the 5th and Sunday the 7th
