of vines and fences explores the patterns, juxtapositions and intersections of organic and manufactured form to understand place-making.  During residencies in Italy, Germany, and France last year, I focused on experimental explorations with material constraints, starting with ink on vellum, translating drawings onto acrylic plates, creating hand-pressed prints, and then developing an “alphabet” I call Alphanatura, which fuse forms of vines and fences.  I concretize these forms into clay, replete with twig-like appearance, to activate space in a new way.  Like language, these morphemes create their own syntax, providing an opportunity to restructure and “read” the common experience of landscape. Fusion and reflection occur throughout the exhibition.
