Exhibition Schedule

Carla Stetson: Meanders

June 14 to July 12, 2025
Opening reception Saturday June 14 from 4-6pm

Many of the pieces in this exhibit are influenced by fluid dynamics, the study of the winding and spiraling movement of fluids and follow a cartographic impulse. In these pieces, I explore patterns on a grand scale such as the Mississippi River Meander Belt, Finger Lakes watersheds, wind vortices and ocean gyres.

More recent works are based on a braided rug motif. In these collage-paintings the braids are animate, becoming unwoven, tangled or knotted along their way. Just as braided rugs were often constructed using remnants and scraps, in my collages the ephemera that I have collected over the years is interwoven with my photos of spider webs, bees, leaf clutter, bark patterns and the like. Unusual combinations and movement mirrors the way we seek to make sense of life- one weaves memories together and a pattern emerges, but our experience of life as a whole often seems like a wild ride.

Workshop & Artist Talk happening on Sat., June 21 from 4-5pm in the gallery. Tai Chi/Qi Gong Workshop led by Rich and Stacey of Moy & More with artist talk to follow by Carla.
